This bright, clear cluster of Herkimer Diamonds was mined by my good friend Tom Dillon. He does all the work at the Ace of Diamond mines. This super gemmy example of a reconstructed cluster is a fine example of the ledge material. At this mine there is a pocket layer that involves 2 weeks of hard labor to remove overburden, and produces pockets with larger Herks that are usually included. Then there is the ledge, much more accesible, but very hard to break (silicified Dolomite). The pockets are quite small, but the crystals are usually very clear. The hard work can pay off with a gem of a cluster such as this one. It is 5 individuals (plus one small extra). This is a complete cluster, meaning all the crystals that originally grew together remain together. It's in great shape, without dings, and only a few small patches of contact where it grew within the Dolomite.
