CALCITE7

Scalenohedral calcite crystals up to 2.5 cm long are dusted with boytroidal Kolwezite. Kolwezite is (Cu, Co)2 CO3 (OH)2, found in the oxidized copper zone of this type locality, it is the same formula as Malachite, with Cobalt added. This piece could be described as Cobaltian Calcite with Cobaltian Malachite. (The custom made lucite base reads "Cobaltian Calcite with Malachite," for this reason). The piece is in fine condition, without any visible dings. The pink color of such large crystals is eye-catching, and the green Kolwezite adds a pleasant contrast. It comes from Gilbert Gauthier's collection from Maisons-Laffite France (see pic of label).
